EBLEX is the organisation for beef and lamb levy payers in England, and is a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board. EBLEX helps the English beef and lamb industry to boost its competitiveness and promotes quality.
The foodservice sector is a key area of EBLEX’s activity. We work across all sectors of the foodservice industry. As well as collaborating closely with chefs, including development chefs, we are the first point of contact for all catering and marketing personnel across the whole spectrum of foodservice, whether the profit or cost sectors.
There are two main ways in which we seek to add value. Firstly through stimulating a profitable demand for quality beef and lamb - which often entails effective product development, recipe innovation and critical operational effectiveness in particular areas as well as marketing and promoting quality beef and lamb generally across all sectors of the foodservice industry.
Secondly, much of our effort is directed at bringing together various parts of the food chain to ensure the foodservice sector benefits from having efficient and sustainable supply chains. Often, this work begins right at the farm level, progresses through processors and suppliers, including butchers, and involves working closely with chefs and caterers.
At the heart of our work is the EBLEX Quality Standard Mark, which aims to deliver improved quality and consistency of beef and lamb and ensure their tenderness and succulence.
EBLEX also works with Assured Food Standards in promoting the Red Tractor scheme and it’s logo.
